In 1989 singer-songwriter Blaze Foley came to an unfortunate end. He was only 39 years old, but had led a turbulent life, with enough drink and drama to write songs about it. So Foley did, with some success even, but the big breakthrough did not come. In the 12 years it took to make the film, director Triplett managed to get to his camera not only an impressive amount of friends and relatives of Foley, but also fellow musicians, music journalists and producers. From their testimonials emerges the image of a complex, colorful, dark-bearded rebel with a big mouth, a small heart and adhesive tape on his cowboy boots.
