Quarantine plot

"Contain The Truth."

Television journalist Angela Vidal and her cameraman accompany the local fire brigade. When an urgent call comes in, they decide to come along. They end up in a small apartment building, where the police are already present because of a terrifying scream in one of the apartments. What initially seemed like a normal routine job, however, gradually begins to turn into a horrific and dark nightmare.

weak.

REC was a refreshing horror film in the found footage frame at the time. Director Dowdle, who really isn't a bad director by the way, wanted to try to recreate this film in America, but unfortunately the end result is rather weak. I'm just of the opinion that Dowdle should stay away from this kind of subgenres, because much good does not come from it.

This film actually copies REC, but is just a bit longer, less scary and above all less interesting. The best pieces are probably the ones that don't show a threat yet. Once the horror hits, you as a viewer get little to amuse yourself with. The pace is very fast, and yet it all manages to be so uninteresting. Quite an achievement to be honest.

One thing this film does do better is the lead actress, because Carpenter does a refreshingly good job in her role that is brought to life rather limited by the writers. The fear feels genuine, and her personality is just plain fun too. As a result, the scenes where she is just talking are no problem to get through.

Visually, the film is nicely decorated, but Dowdle can never really get the camera right. Not that the camera work in these kinds of films is great, but you can always manage to create an oppressive feeling. Quarantine can't do that, which makes it feel quite distant at all times. The horror just won't get off the ground, and for a film that relies on tension and momentum, that's a serious miss.

Unnecessary remake not properly executed. They stay true to the source material, but I think Balagueró and Plaza both sit back and laugh about the fact that their film can't be redone by Americans. So you see that talent is also needed for found footage films, and that falls short in Quarantine.

You can't have an opinion if you haven't copied it and I rarely do…but even I turned it off…I couldn't get through.
