A masterly biopic about the painter-graphic artist Toulouse-Lautrec. Director John Huston brilliantly captures the atmosphere of Montmartre, the colorful characters, as well as Lautrec's distorted vision of life. Excellent actors and a beautiful title song. Good for two Oscars and four nominations

Saw the movie on release. Imagine.

Having now looked at this work again, I must conclude that "Moulin Rouge" was a very clever film for its time and still comes across as solid.

Appreciation for the whole setup on and around the figure of the handicapped and bitter Toulouse-Lautrec, excellently played by José Ferrer.

The film's opening scenes are full of atmosphere and the depiction of the show's eccentric characters is caricatured, colorful and picturesque.

Then the film fades a bit, a bit too many images of the painter's work, a bit repetitive to finally end with a beautiful, sensitive closing sequence.

Nice to see the young Suzanne Flon, whom I actually only really got to know as the older, bright aunt from "L'Eté Meurtrier". Now as a beautiful, young woman, playing her role perfectly

Beautiful film. What a tragic life Henri De Toulouse-Lautrec has known. A complex man with complex relationships. I felt completely drawn into the story and moved by the painter's experience. Good acting performances, beautifully filmed screenplay in which you get an insight into the life and work of a gifted artist, Paris in technicolor, what more could you want?
