Linkeroever plot

Marie is very happy when she can move in with her new boyfriend, until she discovers a strange black hole in one of the basements of his apartment building. Her boyfriend convinces her that she's seeing things that aren't there and that it's due to her recovery from a sports injury. The more she becomes possessed by that hole, the more alienated she becomes from her surroundings.

Linkeroever is a beautiful horror film from Flanders that starts fairly innocently with runner Marie who becomes exhausted and has to put a stop to her passion for the sport for a few months. Meanwhile, she starts a relationship with a boy from Linkeroever that slowly blossoms while Marie slowly but surely deteriorates physically. The reason why is unclear, but it is suspected that it has something to do with a black hole hidden in the basements of the apartment building.

Despite the fact that it is a slow film in which apparently little happens, I was constantly captivated. Mainly thanks to the good play of Matthias Schoenaerts and Eline Kuppens who put down two fascinating main characters, but also because of the mysterious hints that are gradually dropped that you can't place the moment you see them, but make it clear to you that there is something evil underneath. the surface lurks. Cinematographically it is very gloomy and gray, but in a stylish way. Unfortunately, the ending was a bit rushed. There, especially in the visual field, everything had to be pulled out to really take root.

Pretty smooth binoculars, but Linkeroever didn't really live up to my expectations. I went to look at it without any real prior knowledge. I knew that the genre designation was horror, but otherwise I knew nothing about the content. The build-up is very long, so I think the end just comes way too late. You also notice it because it is so quickly rushed. The screenwriters just cobbled something together here and that's a shame because the film had a lot more potential.

Folklore and cult usually create a certain atmosphere. In fact, I didn't have that anywhere here. At first glance, the romance seems to have just started normally without any premeditation. The mystery of the film is mostly kept afloat by what could be wrong with Marie. Why is she so exhausted? Why is her knee only getting uglier? Somewhere too little focus on this. To me, this is a movie with a good idea but also one that starts too late to work towards what it's all about.

What initially appeared as an incoherent, unbalanced, confused thriller degenerates into a really silly, incomprehensible horror.

Somewhere a comparison is made with "Rosemary's Baby". Please, say.
