De Scheepsjongens van Bontekoe plot
Hajo wants to go to sea as a cabin boy on skipper Bontekoe's ship. His mother, who lost her husband at sea, does everything she can to keep him ashore, but the call of the sea is too strong and Hajo's presence on land brings nothing but misery. Padde, Hajo's clumsy boyfriend, can't say goodbye to him. He jumps on board just before departure and it is decided that he will travel to Harlingen, where they have to load gunpowder. Padde will sail back to Hoorn with a tjalk. Padde, however, falls asleep and only wakes up when they are already at sea. On board, Hajo and Padde befriend Rolf, a boy who can already read and write. On their journey to East, they experience many exciting adventures together with skipper Bontekoe.

Quite nice for a Dutch film.
Think the Keeping Century is a good time and read a lot about it and this is a beautiful film that turned out quite well.

Just watched it with my kids (7 and 10) and they thought it was a fun movie. They were never bored and were totally into it. Passed so....because I think this is just a children's film, nothing more and nothing less.
As an adult I have enough to criticize about the film of course...Padde...grrrr, cringingly bad and indeed that voice....I think THE reason people ever invented condoms... 
. Also the 5 days at sea scene in a sloop without water and food, in full sun....haha Cees Geel looked very fit... Or Bontekoe's reaction at the end from the movie in which he saves Toad from the gallows, who foolishly helps his entire crew into the basement including ship and then supposedly has no grudge because ah...Toad.... I think if they play the part of Padde would have left out that the film was rated better...but hey this is all my opinion as an adult and again...my kids really liked it so what am i complaining....
