Is man by nature selfish or altruistic? For generations it has been assumed that man is mainly driven by self-interest. In recent decades, that awareness has been shifting sharply. Research from psychology, sociology, political science and experimental economics shows that we need to rethink the motivation for human behavior. There are biological reasons to believe that the tendency to cooperate is stronger than selfish behavior. Children exhibit spontaneous altruistic behavior already in their first year. They are able to agree and pursue a goal with adults.
