"You name it, we shoot it."
Jerry lives and works at a junkyard next to a transformer substation and has a fearful suspicion that the substation is melting his brain. When he wants to sabotage it, it goes wrong and he becomes magnetized. The magnetic field around him causes even more trouble when he visits Mike, his friend who works at Elroy Fletcher's old failing video store. Due to the magnetic field, all video tapes have become unusable, so Elroy could close his business. Since there are only a few customers, the damage is not that bad and Mike and Jerry decide to make every movie they want to rent with their limited resources.

Usually these are things that you would expect in those forced American comedies, but because of the European contribution of Gondry this manages to become a very enjoyable and above all creative comedy. Gondry here portrays a bit of the stupidity of the contemporary masses with a very strange story; We follow two friends Jerry and Mike. Mike is electronically magnetized in a botched break-in, erasing all the videotapes from the video store that Jerry is trying to keep running. Panic in the tent... the solution seems to be: just try to play all the films very quickly with the necessary resources. But how do you go about replaying, editing and recording all those hundreds of films on the shelves in the short term and without a customer noticing? Correct: They become "Swedishd" and everyone falls for it. 
Imitating and playing the movies is a party. Robocop, Lion King, Ghost Busters, Men in Black eva And yes... the customers really fall for the fact that things are acted out as a kind of wrong play. When they get problems with the copyright they decide to make a whole original movie with the same properties. With surprising consequences.
Yes, this was a very enjoyable viewing experience and Gondry knows how to turn it into something fun again with his creative ideas and delicious nonsense. And through...

I knew the premise of Be Kind Rewind and have always wondered what kind of movie it would be. Is it one of those lame Jack-Black-does-weird-dances-and-screams-a lot-comedy or is it an artistic and more serious Michel Gondry? Now that I've seen the movie, I'm still skeptical. Actually, Be Kind Rewind is both. It is a real Gondry, so of course there is a lot of work with cardboard. And there are some very nice creations passing by. The heart of the movie - how Black and Mos Def act out movies - is funny. Sometimes a tad bland and Black is a bit too present, but the playful excesses are entertaining. Still, Be Kind Rewind is more, because a lot is being raised for the story of Danny Glover, who is in danger of losing his video store. The film gets a bit bland now and then, but luckily never to the point that it gets boring. The same goes for Black, he is never too obnoxious. But despite that - just like the running time of this film - it could have been a little less. Then the film would probably have been a lot sharper.
