This film is admirable and shows so many substantive and cinematic qualities that it must have cost patience and money.
The first film I see by Victor Sjöström and it looks like it's worth catching another one, if possible.
The beautiful story is based on a poem by Henrik Ibsen and the English subtitles of the film are interpreted in that sense, rhyming.
Predominant and impressive are the images of the raging sea with which Terje Vigen is so familiar, the action scenes, but also the close-ups of the main character, excellent representation of the many feelings and emotions that the man experiences.
An ode to forgiveness and the victory of love over hate.

Cool.

Special video, also the oldest I have ever seen. I think this must have been a great spectacle film in 1917, which cost quite a bit of money. In any case, you should be able to see through the stateliness. The texts are mainly shown practically, but from a cinematic point of view it is of course not that interesting. Ultimately, it didn't bother me while watching. The initially depressing source material was, with the possibilities that were available at the time, perfectly translated to the screen. The version I saw was the 53-minute version, which is apparently on Netflix. In any case, it is a piece of film history, so in my opinion it is definitely worth watching.

I probably saw a beautifully restored version, but nevertheless a good silent film from the old days. You can use the term 'stupid' here, because the entire film has no sound. There is no addition of orchestral music or there must have been a problem with my sound.

The images were in various color filters, from brown to yellow, but also pink-red to blue and gray-white. Definitely beautifully depicted as a whole. Also quite interesting in terms of content there somewhere at the beginning of the 19th century with the occupation or war with the English there in Scandinavia. The story also has a personal moral which was presented rather theatrically, but therefore not necessarily disturbing.

It can be seen on Netflix and is therefore definitely worth checking out.
