A very bizarre film, but that doesn't make it consistently good. The atmosphere is nice, but I couldn't quite get into the British setting. I really expected this to be an American film. Maybe that point will improve upon rewatching. Otherwise, it's mostly bizarre. The clown is definitely the highlight. It's fantastic how such wild ideas are incorporated into the film.

I used to see this band a lot at the video store, but somehow never got around to renting it. Finally saw it, and perhaps because of my overly high expectations, I was a bit disappointed. Upon review, Xtro can only be a plus.

3*

Bizarre. Xtro has many similarities, but the mix of alien body horror and killer toys is undoubtedly unique. The German 4-disc Blu-ray release is the ultimate release for now. Moreover, Vinegar Syndrome has released the third part on Blu-ray. Too bad it's being released in such a fragmented way... a complete box set would have been preferable. Anyway; it's a fine release with no shortage of extras. Lots of slimy gore fx that are right up my alley; there is no shortage of slippery alien eggs, cocoons and freaky creature designs. The toys coming to life seems a bit odd, but in the context of the film it doesn't; it's exactly what a child would do with such 'powers'. A nice, distinctive touch. Very curious about the sequels.

And just a little more horror with this Xtro that I once tracked down through a list of films banned in England because of certain scenes. And that's how the interest in this Xtro arose, among others, from which I didn't expect much in advance but was simply curious about, partly because of the famous scene with the birth.

Anyway, things quickly take a turn with this business, with a disappearance and, not long after, a strange creature making the English countryside unsafe, immediately bringing with it the requisite dose of horror, cult, and gore. The creature in the woods the car stops for is certainly remarkable, and it's not long before the infamous scene with the blonde is the object of the action, which is also quite unusual, to say the least. It's quite possible that Jim Carrey got an idea for Ace Ventura When Nature Calls from there. The film then quickly develops into a Bodysnatchers-esque concept with the return of Sam, and Maryam D'Abo's film debut is still something to reflect on, because what a wonderful woman she is.

With Xtro, things quickly go downhill, even though it wasn't a great movie to begin with, but the developments surrounding young Tony are not fun or interesting at all. In fact, the whole thing then goes in a completely wrong direction where I was definitely waiting for Gore, filth, death and mutilation but am suddenly confronted with dwarves, toy soldiers, tanks and who knows what else where that old man has to give himself away by grabbing another bonbon. Lame. In that sense, the film completely derails from a nice Gore and horror show to something very bland and incoherent. It is messy and the vibe that the film had in the beginning is completely lost in the toy phase.

Xtro turned out not to be as bad as I expected, but because of the messy ending, which in my opinion really goes astray, it was a bit disappointing and not sufficient.
