Nice film about a number of single twentysomethings looking for love. Apart from the exceptionally fine soundtrack from the grunge period, the film fails to impress anywhere. Entertaining but somewhat fragmentary. Quite a few familiar faces in small roles. A small 3.0 stars.

Nice, but not everything works equally well. The smooth pen could use some ink every now and then. It just doesn't quite come together. Nevertheless, the film is easy to watch and there are some nice ideas circling around in the film, a number of which have been picked up by later rom- and sitcoms. Crowe has quite a talent, but he never became a truly great filmmaker. Maybe Say Anything can change my mind. 3 stars.

This negativity just makes me stronger, we will not retreat, this band is unstoppable!

The best, the most unsurpassable film ever about the Seattle sound, the rise of grunge that was barely known at the time the film was made, with countless clips of concerts you wish you had been there, with cameos from the bands that weren't much would later break through and become world famous. Somewhere in the beginning is the famous scene where Matt Dillon says "a big record just broke in Belgium" - but that was in the Netherlands, and the original was an interview with Eddie Vedder from just before.

But other than that, it is also just a very fun film, very recognizable in its outline of what it was like in my twenties in the early 90s - exactly as the scenes in the film show, and from one craziness to the next. With nice roles from the beautiful Sedgwick and Fonda, the recognizable Campbell Scott, Matt Dillon who could pass for Chris Cornell - who reportedly almost got that role.

One of the few films I enjoy watching even without watching - the soundtrack is one of the best ever.
