L'Iguana dalla Lingua di Fuoco plot

In Dublin, a young woman is brutally murdered in her home by a maniac who throws acid at her face and slits her throat with a razor. Her mutilated body is later discovered in the trunk of a limousine, owned by Swiss Ambassador Sobiesky. That ambassador, who was the lover of the dead woman, refuses to cooperate with the police on the grounds of his diplomatic immunity. He enlists the help of John Norton, an ex-cop, renowned for his brutal working methods. When this man starts another affair with his beautiful stepdaughter, he becomes more and more involved in the case. Meanwhile, the brutal murders continue...

The plot is fairly chaotic, with the punchline ultimately giving you an unsatisfactory feeling. The gore is also a bit disappointing because the camera often turns away from the action. I liked the role of the mother of John Norton, the ex-police officer, who often left her glasses somewhere and therefore could not see well. Ultimately also a very defining detail later in the film. Mediocre movie! 5/10

A giallo who wants to ride on the success of Dario Argento. Notes the use of an animal name in the title - which Dario started - and the gore. The gore is quite over the top I must say. And in terms of editing it comes across as sloppy at times. Not a neat whole, but entertaining because of the uninhibited brutality of certain scenes. That also compensates for the fairly unbelievable plot.

Apparently Riccardo Freda himself was not very satisfied with his film because he listed his directing credits under the alias Willy Pareto. But to end on a positive note. The soundtrack by Stelvio Cipriani is of excellent quality and occasionally lets you dream away.
