"Everything in this world has its price."
Was it a coincidence that Krabat came to the mill as an apprentice, deep in the gloomy forests of Bohemia? The mill turns out to be a school of the dark arts. The miller is a master of magic. He has twelve servants, twelve disciples. They can't run away, because the Master's magic keeps the road leading them back to the mill. Krabat does not flee. He chooses a different path, supported by the love of a girl.
