Moving story about a couple who are confronted with serious problems during a pregnancy and the question of how to deal with them. Serious stuff that, despite the penetrating camera work, gradually starts to feel a bit distant in a strange way. The camera records, but the protagonists do not reveal anything. I'm still not sure what I actually think of this film.

Intelligent, subtle and moving film about a very delicate subject.

With several strong scenes, such as the table scene where Astrid tells her family the bad news about the impending birth and the varied reactions of those present, and such as the contacts with the doctors (who, by the way, play themselves) that bring even worse prospects.

Presented in a sober way, with virtually no music, and if only for a moment, the sensitivity of the event soars.

Strong, lived-in performances.

There are many films that leave a lasting impression, but this one unnerves you.

Sad film that, regardless of the main character's decision, every mother (and father too) should see, if only to feel lucky that their children are healthy.

Morally speaking, is it allowed to terminate the pregnancy of a child that will be born with a disability? The film "24 Weeks" deals with this theme and does not make it easy for the parents concerned. It was not easy for me either. The camera is close to the two characters and makes it difficult for the viewer to keep their distance. The relationship between The couple is at the center of the film. The relationship occupies the film. Outsiders, such as a friend or a mother, have no real access, rarely speak and with obvious opinions contribute little to the progress of the film. the act.

Director Anne Zohra Berrached, who also co-wrote the script, places the viewer in a suffocating atmosphere. An atmosphere that offers no distractions whatsoever, no opportunity to look beyond the stricken couple to the outside world. To stay outside the oppressive world for a while. To catch my breath for a moment. In the context of the emotionally suffocating story, I understand the oppressive way of dramaturgy that Berrached uses, but I simply did not like the obligation that the film imposes on me to be so close to the parents' experience. The emotional suffering was shoved down my throat in such a compelling way that I cared less and less about the whole story, the whole dilemma, the couple's grief.

This film is not about weighing arguments for or against this specific abortion. This film is a tightly framed description of the couple's decision-making process. The film style in which that process takes place is not a pleasant one. Although 24 Wochen is a skillfully made film with good acting, I was very disappointed by the inability to put things into perspective while watching.
