4 Elements shows man in his struggle with the four primordial elements. Four places on earth where comradeship and mutual trust are still vital. In Fire, Russian firefighters fight forest fires in Siberia. In Water, Alaskan fishermen raise king crabs from the Bering Sea. In Earth, a shortened version of Untertage, we follow two German miners. In the final part, Air, we follow the physically and mentally torturous training of the cosmonauts and astronauts before their launch to the International Space Station.
