Hairspray plot
"When you follow your own beat, the world will follow you."
Remake of the 1988 film of the same name. Baltimore, early 1960s. Tracy Turnblad, a fat but swingy girl sees her dream come true when she passes the audition for the Corny Collins Show. Now that she is in this popular dance show she wants to get her black friends in too, but this is asking for trouble.

What a horrible movie. Musicals are not my thing, but being as sweet and exaggerated as this Hairspray is really bad. As far as I'm concerned, Zac Efron's role and performance portrays the film just right, being abhorrent, bland, and exaggerated.
While I could still appreciate Nikki Blonsky. She has something funny about her and found her not too bad. The same goes for John Travolta and Christopher Walken.
I think a movie like this is more suitable for teenagers, especially teenage girls. For me at least not spend, I have been annoyed blue and green.
One and a half stars, and especially thanks to the three names mentioned.

Hairspray immediately starts with a hyper happy song, but also immediately "uninteresting". - Too overly unrealistic caricature and 3+ proof. Annoying. - Boring songs. - People like John Travolta and Christopher Walken are totally wasted; only Michelle Pfeiffer really does have some fun. - In itself an at times (rare) nice atmosphere, but what a tiring film. - Story doesn't captivate, characters don't captivate, music doesn't captivate, dance doesn't captivate, ... - One big disappointment.

I had the DVD on my shelf for a long time, but I hadn't gotten around to it yet. And the TV broadcast the movie. Watched it tonight, but it didn't disappoint. Sure, sugary sweet, wafer thin and American to the bone. But solidly put together. Travolta can (and goes!) wild in the role of the mother, Walken is caricatured but convincing and Pfeiffer ..... well. The bitch as she should be in these kinds of stories. And I LOVED the lead actress! Although I kept getting visions of Esmee van Kampen... Isn't that the girl who played in the Dutch version of Hairspray? No, nothing wrong with a night of nothing to worry about in front of the TV.
