Dagen zonder Lief plot

'Days Without Love' tells the story of five friends from the past. Zwarte Kelly (Wine Dierickx) returns from a long stay abroad. She has to ask her mother something. Frederic (Jeroen Perceval) will soon be moving to Brussels with his rich sweetheart. He goes to work with his father-in-law. Kurt (Pieter Genard), Frederic's best buddy, is with Blonde Kelly (An Miller). They have a garden, a dog and a child. Kurt has something on his mind. Niek still has his café and settles in with the young girls. Frederic, Kurt, Niek, Zwarte Kelly and Blonde Kelly are back together: fold and bend, pull and push, talk and be silent. Formerly a multitude of friendship, but now, almost invisible, friends from the past. Because new paint doesn't stick to old paint.

Average movie with no real climax in story or direction. And unfortunately a (limited) circle of top actors will not suffice. Slight disappointment as I expected more!

Let it sink in for a while... but even a week later my face still carries a smile with the memory of this film. The central theme of a group of friends growing apart and whose members may or may not be looking for what they still have in common is not new (I vitelloni, The big chill, [ i]Return of the Secaucus 7[/i], Peter's friends, About Alex, Beautiful girls, ...), but when it is done fresh, with catchy protagonists and the right mix of gravitas and cool humor (as here) it remains an emotional experience. And that's what someone says who isn't in such a youthful group of friends in their twenties, and who doesn't look back on such friendships with bittersweet feelings in their thirties—but finding your own place and determining your relationship to other people is now a thing of the past. once something of all time.

I have now finally seen all of Van Groeningen's films. This one is somewhat in between as far as I'm concerned. A decent film, fun to watch, but never spectacular. A film from the everyday life of a few friends who each go their own way with the little house-garden-tree. Of course there is always one who has stuck in his puberty and of course there is always a secret that has to come out.

Nice cast, well-playing cast too and that also translates into the fascinating characters, each with their own concerns. The film was largely shot in Sint-Niklaas, at least as far as the car fragments are concerned. Nice bouncer also in France where the routine was forgotten for a while and the men became boys again.

Too bad I missed the subtitles a bit, not that I didn't understand it as a Fleming, but it did help so that I had to listen less than watch.
