Can't Buy Me Love plot

"Ronald is making an investment in his senior year. He's hiring the prettiest cheerleader in school to be his girlfriend."

Like any teenager, Ronald Miller wants to be popular. To him it seems like an unrealizable dream: he does not look hip, does not wear modern clothes and is not sporty. So it is not surprising that the girls ignore him and that he is never invited to parties. Still, Ronald has no intention of accepting his fate, especially now that he is a senior. By a dumb coincidence, he comes into contact with Cindy Mancini. She is the prettiest girl in school and captain of the cheerleading squad. Cindy agrees to pretend to be his girlfriend for a month in exchange for a new suede suit.

Money can't buy me love

A fun not too complicated teen comedy with a simple message (be yourself) that leaves a good feeling. Also, the cast seems to have had a lot of fun with it. Many may find this cheesy, but I'm a fan and nostalgic of the 80s and they don't make them like that anymore. Amanda Peterson is a really sexy sweetie (seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth in the meantime. Can't find anywhere on the internet how she would be now.) and Dempsey switches from geek to cool with brio. Not many bad words. I also liked other super films in this genre Secret Admirer and Mystic Pizza.

The dialogues were sometimes very idiotic :

Dempsey to Peterson with the most philosophical quote from the film: You can do anything you want; Anything you put your heart and your mind into. I believe that!

To which Peterson nods ultra-seriously at this profundity. Where did they get it?

Quite a funny plot that unfortunately has been worked out in a simple way, it all seemed a bit too forced in one way or another at times.

At the same time, the film is very entertaining, but it follows the standard roads without deviating even a little bit.

2.5*

I probably would have liked this movie a lot more if I had seen it in the 90s. Nowadays the first half hour is fine and Amanda Peterson plays nice but Patrick Dempsey is, in a word, terrible.

In the last half hour cliché is piled on cliché and it was hard for me to make it to the end.

For many fixed youth sentiment. Unfortunately I missed this boat.

Mediocre.
