The idea of a village with a fixed population is certainly not bad, but the execution leaves something to be desired here and there.

Although it is all still fairly atmospheric, Population 436 mainly lacks tension. Especially the part before the final denouement is not too exciting. Sisto isn't a very good protagonist either, but Durst still does quite well. By the way, never knew that he also acted.

I saw the final denouement somewhat coming, but I thought it fit well into the whole. It may not be a good movie, but it could certainly be much worse.

The story is good as well as the atmosphere. As others have noted, it lacked some tension. It all flows a little too quietly. I would have liked more character development from the other characters than the main character. You hardly get to know anything about the inhabitants of Rockwell Falls. Certainly the role of little Amanda should have been fleshed out better, she was the most captivating of the inhabitants, but her screen time is ridiculously short. I would rather they focused on her more than the main character's love interest. There is also an alternate ending (DVD version) that I like much better than the original.

Had seen this one before, a long time ago, thought it was a pretty good mystery thriller to watch, because I don't think this is horror. Is still worth watching, but do like films about small secluded towns/villages, where the local population shows strange behavior. Is he really exciting, no not really, but he still looked away smoothly. 6/10
