Sunday evening classic evening and that became The song of songs with none other than Marlene Dietrich. And I also found this film in the classic and foreign crate at the thrift store, from which I had taken quite a selection with different unpacking so far. Because It Started in Naples was disappointing, while The Children's Hour and Wuthering Heights were very good. Unfortunately, The Song of Songs fell a bit in between with wallflower Lily who arrives in the big city only to fall under the spell of artist Richard who is quick to win over this blank page and use it mainly as a Muse. What follows next is mainly unclear with Lily looking for affection, Richard full of doubts and the Baron who is soon on the fence. The moments of chemistry between Lily and the artist are excellent, and the patronizing aunt is also good and especially funny.

And that is the tone of the film and the soundtrack, especially during phases, namely cheerful and funny. Daring, on the other hand, is indeed the love scene with the image, but also the ease with which a good, good and faithful girl takes off her clothes for the artist. Then the tone later in the film is of a different nature, where Lily seems to change into a tough, unfeeling diva, which shows that the so-called security and affection that the Baron offered has had no positive effect and that there is sadness deep in her heart. With Richard once again in the picture and 'reconciliation' as the next step, The Song of Songs, which means the Song of Songs, appears to contain considerable ingredients. Yet it all only fascinates me moderately and I find the middle part to be a bit boring, despite the idea, the cast and the performances.
