Édouard et Caroline plot
Edouard is a pianist and is married to Caroline. This evening they are invited to Claude's. Claude is Caroline's snobbish uncle. His son Alain is in love with Caroline. They look contemptuously at Edouard because he has no money. At the party, Edouard is forced to play the piano in hopes of gaining fame among Claude's close friends.
