The Musketeer plot

"As you've never seen it before."

France, the seventeenth century. The country is in chaos. Cardinal Richelieu tries to overthrow King Louis XIII and seize power himself. For this he has created a private army, led by the sadistic Febre. During one of their lootings, little D'Artagnan's parents are murdered in cold blood by Febre. The boy grows up with one goal in mind: to become a Musketeer just like his father and take revenge on Febre.

Far too low score because the story was nothing and too much action

I just thought it was an enjoyable movie with well-made action and good actors.

3.5 star

I am very charmed by the story of the three musketeers. Although that is considerably reduced when you see this film.

The worst movie on this subject. Can't really name a lot of positives. That might be the visual. It does look nice, and some sword fights do look tight.

But other than that, it's actually one big mess. Especially the 'kills' really don't make sense at all. Rarely seen so unrealistic. The story is a big mess, nowhere is it really clear and it seems as if they worked without a script and something was conjured up from the top hat.

Furthermore, the acting is also to cry. Even Tim Roth goes along in the dramatic level, his role as a villain is completely out of the picture. The lead actor wouldn't have been too expensive either, because he probably never took an acting class either.

The camera work is the same. Sometimes I really wonder what I'm watching and if you shouldn't fling a movie like this a mile away ASAP.

But hey, after watching a misfire like this you can appreciate a movie that is well put together and let's hope my next movie will be a lot more fun.

This is nothing and will never be appreciated by anyone..

With the re-release of The Three Musketeers I heard someone say that every generation should have its 'own' three musketeers. I totally disagree with that. It may have been a long time since I've seen the 1993 version, but at least no later version has come close, let alone surpassed. I'm not interested in the latest version anyway. Especially after seeing the trailer.

This 2001 version should not have been made at all. It doesn't add anything, the actors aren't nice in most cases and the plot is written so badly and illogically that I scratched my head until I bled. Tim Roth is such an astonishingly bad actor who can do nothing but portray a bad guy in a very boring way. A totally interesting character. For the rest they completely fail to put down an interesting spectacle. There is hardly any spectacle. The fights mainly consist of slimy, staged dances, where the swords sometimes cross each other. Not something to write home about. The political game is also not very special. Not bad enough to make the movie really boring, but any sane person wouldn't mind watching this nonsense a second time. Rightly low rating.
