Debut film by this seasoned horror director, it is the film adaptation of a story by Juan Tébar which, as mentioned here before, is somewhat like Suspiria. As was customary at the time, Franco's censorship had to come in handy to ban the sex and nude scenes from the film. The director eventually managed to solve this problem by letting the ladies shower in a transparent nightgown, for example. The way in which the sex scene is disguised is also very cleverly done, through music and zooming in on faces you can still feel the tension of that scene as a viewer. The censorship here, as is often the case, benefited the creativity, even though some scenes seem to have been cut out. The film became a huge success in Spanish cinemas. 3.5*

Handsome horror film from Spain about a girls' boarding school where Mme. Fourneau holds sway. The story is nicely built up to its climax that may come across a bit abrupt. But in the meantime you have already seen a few surprises such as a murder of a character that you do not see coming. Great acting and a beautiful setting. All corridors, floors and rooms are shown to the viewer with a great atmosphere setting. Mysterious, atmospheric horror film that does not rely on the horror, but on the story, the atmosphere and the setting. 7.5/10
