Valdez lives simply and works hard; when a young man named Jamie comes along looking for work, the boy must prove himself before he wins the friendship of the eccentric and finds a friend in him. Despite difficulties with the local sheriff and clashes with the haughty Spanish rancher Morell, who fences the pastures with barbed wire, the future looks bright when Valdez's stallion fathers a foal. Then trouble comes in the form of the graceful and arrogant Catherine Morell, half-sister to Valdez's most dangerous enemy.

A great film in which Bronson fits well.
the film did have the romantic/drama kind of approach. nature with a lot of wild horses, the man alone who gets an unexpected friend and the music. Story isn't great but the visuals and bronson made up for it pretty well. The ending was a bit of a disappointment. you think you see a nice shootout in which bronson would win as so often, he suddenly gives up and goes away. 
The part about Jamie sleeping with the Indians was wonderfully over the top. Couldn't suppress a smile.

Reasonable film about a horse breeder who leads a lonely existence until he hires a boy. A western that lacks a bit of a (good) story, but nevertheless looks away easily. It's all not too much. Still some great moments and also the scenes with the horses are beautiful.

The film ripples on a bit too much to really captivate and the actors are a bit distant. Charles Bronson is a cold actor anyway and sometimes that works and sometimes (like in this movie with this role) it works less. Story isn't very interesting either. Still a nice atmosphere and the pictures of the landscapes (often with a somewhat low sun it seemed) are nice to see. 2.5*.
