Armored Car Robbery plot

"The stick-up that stunned the nation!"

Crafty criminal Dave Purvis, aka Martin Bell, teams up with petty criminals Benjamin "Benny" McBride, Al Mapes and William "Ace" Foster to plan an armed robbery of an armored money truck. In this robbery, Benny is badly injured and a colleague of the driven Police Lieutenant Jim Cordell is killed by Purvis. Benny, noticing that Purvis won't take him to a doctor, demands his share of the loot. Purvis, who is in love with Benny's wife, the nightclub entertainer Yvonne LeDoux, then kills Benny. Meanwhile, Cordell chases Purvis, Mapes and Ace. During the run, Ace is killed by the police and Purvis and Mapes are able to escape separately. Because Mapes doesn't know Purvis's true identity and whereabouts, his only lead, Yvonne LeDoux, is his mistress. When Mapes wants to visit Yvonne in her nightclub, it turns out that Cordell is there too.

Police lieutenant Jim Cordell is very successful, which makes you hope that the bandits will be more successful, but yes, that Hays Code...

Charles McGraw with his recognizable voice is as we are used to from him in other thrillers:

Adele Jergens makes a pleasant appearance in this otherwise short standard thriller.

This short duration makes the film seem more like an episode of a TV series; situations are not sufficiently developed and everything seems to be very coincidental; pace can also be too high (certainly from Cordell), unrealistic. Should have been more resident, too bad.

IMDb *6/10.

I remember the hitchhiker I saw a few years ago. Talman's face looked familiar to me. He played the sadistic killer there with a terrifying brilliance. Here he plays a no less evil character who, as a criminal, will stop at nothing to commit the crime.

The film is nice and short and there is a lot of pace and tension in the story, not much depth in the characters but that is of less importance in an action crime story like this, as mentioned above, technically well executed with a lot of pace and effective in its kind.
