Mary Elizabeth Carroll is a nightclub queen known as the 'Doll Face'. When she auditions for a regular Broadway theater show, she is rejected because of her questionable background. Her manager, Mike Hannegan, realizes that she doesn't necessarily have to choose, but that it could also be both - the nightclub and Broadway. He hires a skilled writer to write the autobiography of 'Doll Face' so that she can get enough publicity to be an attractive candidate for Broadway.
