Jennifer (Elisha Cuthbert) is a model who, along with a driver, is kidnapped by a serial killer and held in a small room. While the psychopath systematically terrorizes them, the victims draw strength from each other and fall in love.

Another typical Saw/Hostel copycat that builds up well in the beginning. Exciting dark build-up with that sinister music from Rockers Hi-Fi, then we get the theme what to expect. That woman who, as promised, ends up in a cellar and from a distance a sadistic game is played with her again. But the tension wears off pretty quickly after a while and you eventually know what's going to happen. The film still wants to be quite shocking here and there read: those hydrochloric acid scenes but Captivity doesn't really have a structure and content. It's not really more than just stupid weekday entertainment.

I didn't think the beginning was very special, it was all rather slow and the torture didn't come across as gore. It got a bit more entertaining for me after halfway through, probably due to the twist that I honestly didn't expect, but could have come across as predictable!
I think there are also quite a few films that rely on this story, so I recognized some things from the horror film Otis (2008). When it comes to such stories, I like it. In this film, this also started a little later in an entertaining way.
