Pretty nice.
I haven't seen Kurosawa in about 1.5 years. After Seven Samurai there were two mediocre movies, after which I didn't feel like it anymore. In general, his movies are just too long for me and it's pretty much the same.
The beginning is quite nice, but in the end the film is too long and doesn't hold my attention enough.

Shakespeare in Japan. Akira Kurosawa gives it his own interpretation. With great respect for the story and the theatrical approach, but you still miss the dialogues for which Shakespeare was known. It's more than just a story. Kurosawa does manage to visually dress it up, almost minimalistic and at the same time very grand. You immediately imagine yourself in the past, the atmosphere is immediately set.
A lot less is that different scenes take too long. Slow cinema is good, but these are just too slow scenes that take the rhythm out of it. Fortunately, the film has enough assets with the cinematography and protagonist Toshirô Mifune.

This Japanese adaptation of Shakespeare's Macbeth does have its moments, although the film has stood the test of time moderately across the board. The story is and remains very strong, but the exaggerated acting and the sober cinematography leave much to be desired. Here and there some beautiful shots and atmospheric scenes (the encroaching 'forest' for example), which makes it easy to watch the film, but I've seen better films by director Kurosawa.
