a disappointment. the movie was more about the construction worker than brian jones. the stones themselves therefore remain very much in the background. the atmosphere does not come across and the story ripples on a bit with some isolated scenes here and there. you could almost say that the 60's ladies were still the highlight and that does not seem to me to be the intention in this film. Shame.

On his deathbed, Rolling Stones accompanist Frank Thorogood confessed that he was responsible for the death of founding member and guitarist Brian Jones during a late-night swim. This biographical film takes that confession as a starting point for the story of the last period in the life of the brilliant but uncontrollable musician. The result gives an atmospheric picture of the counterculture of which the Stones were part, but the characterizations are mediocre. The film focuses on the bond between Jones [Leo Gregory] and Thorogood [Paddy Considine] and the experiments with sex, booze and drugs. What is striking is that Mick Jagger [Luke de Woolfson], Keith Richards [Ben Wishaw] and Charlie Watts [James D. White] hardly appear in the story, although Jones is regularly in the studio. It is also a pity that the makers were not allowed to use Stones music, even though director Stephen Wooley cleverly tries to disguise this by using cover versions of the cover versions that the Stones recorded early in their career, including Little Red Rooster , Not Fade Away and not to forget Time Is On My Side. A rather depressing biography that reveals little about the enigma Brian Jones.

Quite a pleasant film, with a nice atmosphere of the 70s. As long as you don't want to see anything about the Stones in it, it's fine - of course it's completely impossible to find suitable actors for Jagger and Richards anyway. And also for Jones, of course, and that's what it's all about.

Not that Gregory is doing a bad job, really - and throughout the film he clearly grows into his role. Considine is also almost perfect, and the setting in the very beautiful farm, or should I say, country house - you won't find it more beautiful.

Where the film completely fails in wanting to find a story that is not there. No evidence has ever been found that Jones died of anything other than too much booze and a swimming pool. Leave it at that, if you can't make enough of that, find another subject.

Basta, and rest in peace.

(and yes, a full point deduction because the speculation just really gets me wrong)
