Bela Bela - Ik Heb het Leven Nodig plot
Four poets: a Russian, a Russian, a Romanian and a Cuban. All four won the Poetry International Award of Honor for poets in captivity. They are now free and talk about their time in prison. Especially about the senses: in prison everything looks gray, it doesn't smell like a woman, says the Russian, and never like youth, and the sounds are of footsteps and bars. Director Marjoleine Boonstra weaves together the impressions into a universal portrait of captivity. The interviewees speak softly about a hard past, about the sad but powerful way in which human dignity survived human cruelty.
