Pink Flamingos plot

"An exercise in poor taste"

Sleaze Queen Divine lives with her son Crackers and her 250lb mother Edie in a caravan, proudly holding the title of 'most filthiest people alive'. But competition is lurking with the couple Raymond and Conny, who kidnap female hitchhikers and have them impregnate by their butler so they can sell the babies to lesbian couples. Divine goes into battle mercilessly.

What a drag this was. I understand that some parts were deliberately shot and filmed this way to give Pink Flamingos a cult following, but I found very little enjoyable in it.

It's all very bizarre, typical of the seventies. Some things are gross, the actors are just acting out, and the camerawork isn't anything to write home about. The biggest problem, however, is that I found very little to enjoy. If a lot of it is bad, but the overall experience is still quite enjoyable, it can still be quite enjoyable.

The smile barely crossed my face, let alone that I actually laughed. For me, this is definitely a "love it or hate it" experience, and I definitely consider myself in the latter group.

With 'Pink Flamingos' in 1972, John Waters made a film that you must see at least once in your life. Drag queen Divine (of the disco hits 'Shoot Your Shot' and 'Shake It Up') plays the lead role, and there is even a semblance of a plot to be discovered, although it is lost in the open-mouthed amazement at what is shown. A demented mother with an egg obsession, kidnapped women who are raped and impregnated so they can sell their children to lesbian couples, a pencil vendor with a sausage attached to his willy, sex with a chicken, a lip-syncing anus, incest, cannibalism involving shot police officers, a (for lack of a better word) emasculation, a massacre broadcast live on television and, as a grand finale, Divine eating a fresh dog turd. Hilarious, provocative, delightfully politically incorrect and totally unique.

The most disgusting movie I've ever seen. Cut to pieces, lots of fast-forwarding. Yuck. And to think there are people who "love" these kinds of movies.

This film has absolutely nothing to do with the story; I think the intention was to capture their vulgarity on film, because there's no shortage of that in this film. At times, it even made me nauseous; the nudity was one thing, but all that puking, and then the dog poop... There was also some pretty good music, like The Trashman's "Surfin' Bird" (though I'd like to know which part of the song was used).

I can understand why this film was banned in the prudish US.
