A movie I didn't expect much from. It is best known for the song White Christmas and I therefore assumed that was only what the film made known. A film made in war years on the verge of American participation in WWII. During the recordings, America would become involved in the world war via Pearl Harbor, so some scenes were made a bit more heroic. You can see that in the act at 4th of July where extra images can be seen on a film screen.

The film has a well-known story of 2 men chasing the same girl. But that's exactly what works well here. I'm not a fan of all those holidays. Most of them are not even celebrated with us. And already in advance my preference went faster to Fred Astaire than to Bing Crosby. But I caught myself feeling so sorry for Crosby (Jim in the movie) when he starts a life of his own at the Holiday Inn and has a beautiful wife next to Linda with whom he can share those plans and then Astaire (Ted in the movie) messing all that up for a career and coming to terms with the loss of his lover at the expense of his mate's love. I really felt for Crosby.

Strange but true, it is precisely that game between the three figures (and that manager as an appendage) that is the film's great asset. Crosby's songs are not too bad, but are dated. And Astaire has also danced better. But it's certainly not bad and fits into the concept of all those holidays. The film is therefore not immediately memorable as a musical comedy, but it has become a good romantic comedy. Better than expected, but will probably not be to everyone's taste given the genre (the less popular mix of romance, comedy and music).

Like the other films by Mark Sandrich, a routine musical with a meager story and a few beautiful songs: “White Christmas” and “Easter Parade”. Bing Crosby has a beautiful veiled singing voice, but I am not impressed by his acting talent. And I don't like Fred Astaire without Ginger Rogers twice.

Feel - good romantic Christmas movie from the old box that certainly charmed me despite the very sweet songs and ditto romance .

Beautiful decors (especially the Inn itself) and the winter setting is beautiful.

There is some humor intertwined in it and that works well, otherwise a dated film but who cares, as a Christmas film it certainly succeeded.
