A top film and in this day and age still brilliant due to the masterful staging of Roman Polanski, who also plays a leading role. I myself have watched the film more than 10 times and discover more and more unique details. Some pretty good actors: Professor Abronsius, the innkeeper and his wife Rebecca: simply wonderful. Count von Krolock tells his vampire family, "With Lucifer's help, we hope for more juicy times".... the Count is utterly charming and offers his unexpected visitors a place to sleep in a room full of cobwebs...One of the best movies in the genre, if not the best. You can see it best in the original version.

This Horror Comedy by Roman Polanski had also been on my 'To Watch' list for a while. Polanski is a versatile director, also within the Horror genre, from films like Rosemary's Baby to a comedy film that makes fun of the Gothic horror of the 60s.

The film tells the story of how a professor and his assistant travel across Eastern Europe in search of a vampire to kill. When they arrive at a remote village, it seems that the time has finally come. A young lady - whom the assistant had a crush on - is kidnapped by the old Earl...

Although Polanksi has not put himself in the credits, he actually plays the lead role. Just like in The Tennant, I thought he played well here too, he has a funny modest character here. Jack MacGowran played the role of the eccentric professor in a fun way. Ferdy Mayne also put down a strong vampire. And the beautiful Sharon Tate was also nice to see, only very strange when you consider that after this film she would marry Polanski and be brutally murdered by the Manson family 2 years later.

The setting of the film is very beautiful and atmospheric, unlike many films of that time, it was largely shot on location, which ensures a realistic decor. The humor is caused by a pleasant lightness and some very clever jokes. A Jewish vampire who couldn't be stopped by a cross or a vampire with his teeth stuck in a book, I thought was funny. The film was also nicely shot in Panavision and had some very successful special effects and tricks for the vampires were also well executed.

The Fearless Vampire Killers was an entertaining 'Gothic comedy' by Roman Polanski. Sometimes Horror/Comedy doesn't work and sometimes it does, here it was quite nice. You don't expect the dark ending in such a light-hearted film, really liked it.

Nice film in which a professor and his student are looking for vampires. The film looks good with a good decoration. Here and there also quite atmospheric (thanks to the ghost-like music). A little more speed and story wouldn't have done anything wrong. Jack MacGowran doesn't just look funny, he also plays his part amusingly.
