The year is 1927 and Pete Kelly (Jack Webb) and his jazz band are playing in an illegal bar somewhere in Kansas. A local mobster breaks into the pub and kills the band's drummer. After the death of his drummer, he realizes how happy he is with his girlfriend Ivy Conrad (Janet Leigh).
