The Family Stone plot

"Feel The Love"

Meredith Morton (Sarah Jessica Parker), a nervous and over-organized Manhattan businesswoman, goes to meet the family of her friend Everett Stone (Dermot Mulroney) for the first time. The two are invited to Christmas dinner, and Meredith dreads the meeting. Rightly so, as it turns out, because Meredith is completely out of place due to her contradictory character and not at all to the taste of the exuberant Stones. Mother Stone (Diane Keaton) and their children Amy (Rachel McAdams), and Thad (Tyrone Giordano) do everything they can to prevent Everett from making the mistake of his life by marrying Meredith.

“Christmas is not "clothing optional" this year - we have a guest.”

An impressive film in itself. The ending is especially beautiful and sentimental. A little too sentimental, but it's a Christmas movie for that. The problem with The Family Stone is that the script is very messy. I felt like I had missed a whole antecedent between these characters. One moment Mulroney wants to propose to SJP , and two scenes later he's in love with her sister! Claire Danes. Very strange.

Fortunately, there is always Rachel McAdams who plays a wonderful role as the youngest Stone descendant Amy. Along with Keaton and Danes, she brings some much-needed spice to the film. The other characters and actors are a bit too decent and boring. SJP is downright insufferable. But otherwise this is a great family film with a smile and a tear. Nothing more, but certainly nothing less.

A bit of a slow start and only moderately captivated me, but luckily the film got better. Sarah Jessica Parker was especially unsympathetic and played the part well. Other than that, it wasn't really surprising, but it wasn't disturbing either.

Not the most famous Christmas movie, but great to watch if you don't know what to watch.

Beautiful little melancholic feel-good Christmas film with a touch of drama, romance and humor. Christmas in a family where everyone has something wrong somewhere. Sarah Jessica Parker plays the neurotic yet genuine newcomer to this family who has some trouble accepting this misfit. Everything goes wrong what can go wrong with a climax towards the end, where I was in a bit of a dent. Still one of the better Christmas movies. Looks nice and relaxed. Enjoyed it.
