Allegro plot

"Allegro dwells on the romantic world in which character flaws and personal mistakes alter one's universe."

After a long absence, New York's famous pianist Zetterstrøm returns to Copenhagen for a gala concert. He has lost the love of his life and therefore he denies his past, he tries to forget the past. Some people resent this and kidnap his past and place it in a mysterious zone in the heart of Copenhagen. The zone is a kind of city in a city that is cut off from the outside world. When he comes into contact with a messenger from the mysterious zone, he is reconnected to what lies behind him, to what made him leave Copenhagen: his love for the enchanting Andrea.

Very nice, only the middle part I found less interesting. Visually very nice again, this one from Boe, with the lighting, the warm atmospheric photography and grainy and dingy appearance. Nice use of zoom is also immediately noticeable. Take the beautiful piano music (almost only Bach by the way) and you sometimes have really beautiful images. Especially in the beginning this is omnipresent (and has New York looked this beautiful before?). The only thing I didn't like was the middle part. Too long winded and annoying. I also think: say what you want and don't start playing games and having interviews. Only towards the end everything gets better, there is some pace and tension and emotion that you sorely missed until then. But where Boe excels are the encounters between man and woman. That beautiful scene in the pub in Reconstruction, for example, but this Allegro also has one of those. Casual, insecure, tender. That makes me

Pretty good yes, but a bit less than Reconstruction.

What I especially missed here was the mysterious atmosphere, which was fully present at Reconstruction. Visually, it often looks beautiful. Boe clearly has a great sense of style, which is reflected in various beautifully lit shots and nice visual tricks (drawings), although the soundtrack was a bit disappointing. Generic piano tunes, nowhere really characteristic or special, so that Boe doesn't get the most out of his atmosphere creation, and that's a shame.

Other than that, a very enjoyable movie. The idea is very nice, number of beautiful scenes, perfect playing time so that there was no boredom, but I was not really integrated as a viewer. The atmosphere is not consistent enough for that. Small 3.5*.

Allegro

Strong film by Boo. Allegro has a distinct and original premise, and for the most part I enjoyed the story, the acting, the relationship between Zetterstrom and Andrea, and especially the audiovisual feats. The film has a short running time, but there were still some scenes in the second part where it became long-winded. I would have liked to see some more scenes between Zetterstrom and Andrea, but we get that old guy and some weird subplots. The ending is also very abrupt, but fortunately the first part is very strong. And Allegro deserves the originality prize anyway.
