Baltimore, early 1960s. Tracy Turnblad (a role of talk show host Lake), a fat but swinging girl sees her dream come true when she passes the audition for the Corny Collins Show. Not my taste. I understand that some people love this film and the remake, but in my opinion the film is too sweet and there is way too much dancing and singing in it. Like I said: not my taste. I didn't think the remake was that great either, but still better than this one. There is more humor in the remake. The remake got 2.5* from me, and this one gets 2 stars.

Haha, what a film again from that weirdo Waters. A period in time is made completely ridiculous. In this absurd spectacle that is full of bizarre characters with extravagant appearances, the wonderfully wrong songs and the crazy dances, nothing is too crazy. Waters shows that he is more than just the king of bad taste, but that he can actually do something. The sets and colorful art direction are actually very special. It is a fairly simple feel-good story and I don't know if the anti-racism was meant seriously, but this is of course a unique satirical comedy. How I laughed at the beatniks, the mother who is afraid of blacks, the psychiatrist, the bomb in the hair and much more. Very nice film! 4 stars

Nice film about a girl who unexpectedly succeeds in a dance show on tv. This comical and especially cheerful music film lacks a bit of direction and that is partly why I think the remake is a bit better. The film is set in the 60s and the entire setting is colorful with also nice hairstyles.
