Seen this film in the sneak in Arthouse Lux in Nijmegen. There were seven people who walked away from the sneak and it can be concluded that they don't like musicals at all, because if you think this musical is bad, how do you want it? It all looked perfect. It just can't get any better. Beautiful dance scenes with thanks of course to the couple Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. That Emma looked really beautiful with her canary yellow dress. Of course, when I saw this film, I immediately thought of the MGM musicals from the fifties with Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire. You could almost say that this film is a tribute to those musicals such as Singin' in the Rain and An American in Paris, just to name a few examples. In that case, this film is extremely successful. But again, if you don't like musicals, it's best to ignore this film because the story is, like most musicals, paper thin.

Very pleasant surprise. Was expecting a good movie but not as good as this one. What stood out with Whiplash is how physical the music feels with Chazelle, and that is a decisive unmistakable unique quality. La La Land is no exception, and he can take this even further because it's a musical film. As far as I'm concerned, all sound Oscars should go to La La Land, however magnificent Arrival was in this area.

The film is brimming with energy. In addition, LA really breathes and is perhaps the most important character of the film, and therefore more than worthy of the title. You feel the sun burn on your skin, the attraction and repulsion of the city full of big dreamers who see opportunity in impossibility and hedonistic California. Not to mention the dreamy use of colors and the film gives it a very nice surreal atmosphere. The ending gives La La Land an even more surreal layer, which you can do something with, but you don't have to.

Cast is magnificent, the chemistry between Gosling and Stone is still mouth-watering, and it's even better than Crazy, stupid, love. The love story is very touching and despite the necessary drama it is never theatrical or disturbing. La La Land is a magnificent musical film but make no mistake, stylistically La La Land is even stronger. A movie that is in my heart, don't think you should be a musical lover for La La Land. Go see this.
