Three stories about Mother's Day set in North Carolina over different years. Grace has come home with her mother to search for the child she gave up for adoption as a teenager. Mark travels to a village to rescue an endangered turtle species. When he meets motel owner George, he is faced with an unexpected choice. Elizabeth is the wife of a preacher. When the good, sheltered neighborhood where they live changes radically, she must choose whether to stand by her husband or stand up for her own views.
