Le Vélo de Ghislain Lambert plot
In the seventies there was Eddy Merckx... and the others. One of those others was Ghislain Lambert! The film tells the story of a little Belgian cyclist. His only ambition was to become a champion. Unfortunately, Ghislain didn't have the legs his big heart deserved.

Usually the attention goes to the big stars in cycling, but now the spotlight turns to a helper in a small team, a water carrier who has to toil for minimum wage. Benoît Poelvoorde is a bit too old to play a young pro, but he's clearly been on a diet and his facial expressions are lovely. The cycling environment is depicted realistically and with a sense of humour, including its dark sides. Feuds within the team, media horny sponsors and shady soigneurs surround Ghislain. It was the time of Eddy Merckx, whose back of his head can be seen for a moment, but our hero can only dream of that level.

Always nice to see a touch of cycling romance in a film. Brings some extra cachet for me personally. A nice insight into the cycling peloton or life within a cycling team. A nice Poelvoorde that is highlighted as a helper. Always with that humorous witticism that is appreciated.
The atmosphere of the cycling circus is beautifully displayed. Of course not always truthful and always with a corner off, but all quite amusing. Nice!

Nice film about a cyclist trying to break through in the sport. The first half in particular lacks direction and is somewhat fragmented. This gets better in the second half. Still entertaining scenes and the cycling also looks great. Benoit Poelvoorde is also nicely cast.
