Nah.

Really strong at best. Sometimes reminded me of Tokyo.sora, both in design and execution. A few women are followed in their daily lives, although it is mainly the dramatic moments that are singled out. Still, this film scores 2 full stars less.

On the one hand, because 5 hours (and a chat) is just ridiculous. Some scenes take place in real-time but really add little. That way I really didn't have to attend the whole seminar, especially since it was all a bit on the woolly side. The film has a few moments where it all just gets a bit too corny.

Which brings me to the next problem: monologues and dialogues. Endless gibberish, something the Japanese should not participate in. Cut them all out and I think there's about 120 minutes of material left. Immediately also the best scenes of the film and you'll be at 4 stars, if not more.

A bit crazy, especially since Hamaguchi's previous film was barely 60 minutes long. I'm afraid he's let himself go a bit too much here. At times it is beautiful cinema, but I find that length irresponsible.
