I found the film disappointing for a romantic comedy. The story is, as it should be, predictable; that does not matter. But the development of characters is not going well. Decisions the protagonist makes come out of nowhere. Jokes don't go beyond a faint smile. Too bad, because there could have been more to the story.

This bland but entertaining Comedy/Romance movie I watched (or should I say revised) because of Debra Messing (known for the comedy series) Will & Grace (TV Series 1998 - 2006)) in the lead role, who I thought was a beautiful and nice woman at the time.

This story revolves around Kat Ellis (Debra Messing), who needs a date for her sisters, Amy (Amy Adams), wedding. And not just any one, because she wants to make a crushing impression on her ex, Edward Fletcher-Wooten (Jack Davenport), who is the witness. However, Kat is currently single and at her wits' end, she hires gigolo Nick Mercer (Dermot Mulroney), who will play her boyfriend at the wedding for $6,000.

The thirteen in a dozen story is not much and also contains many clichés about men, women and weddings, in a syrupy directed romantic comedy, which mainly wants to remind you of earlier films such as "Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994)", "My Best Friend's Wedding (1997)", "My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)" and other films with "Wedding" in the title. That Kat Ellis asks a gigolo, but at the same time is so shy that she is shocked when he turns out to be showering naked, is just laughable in a negative sense.

Despite this, this film still managed to entertain me and I even had to (smile) laugh regularly at the many silly humor. The cast consists of well-known actors and actresses, such as Debra Messing, Dermot Mulroney and Amy Adams and especially the first mentioned plays nice and she also made me laugh the most.

All in all, a very predictable bland Comedy / Romance film, which nevertheless manages to entertain and which, after about 90 minutes, is also doable as a snack.

“I'd rather fight with you than make love with anyone else.”

The Wedding Date really is one of those predictable romcoms with a dime a dozen. Debra Messing still manages to make a lot of it and the chemistry with Mulroney keeps the film together a bit, but for the rest this is a film that doesn't hurt a cent and you are forgotten again. So Amy Adams starred in these kinds of movies at the beginning of her career, and that's a movie crime in itself.
