Fine typical American film about a "suburb" family with some problems. Well, there is something in every family, but due to a number of aha moments in the film, this family seems to have a few things on the so-called tally stick. Nothing to complain about the acting, nor about the music, the atmosphere and the storyline. It's all well put together. And even if it's a drama movie, you can laugh.

Although Imaginary Heroes is clearly inspired by American Beauty, it is still a fun and smooth film. Here too, the family looks happy in the spotlight, but the foundation is as rotten as a medlar. The eldest son's suicide turns things upside down. It is very interesting to see how everyone handles the situation and ultimately derails. To be honest, I've never been into the family dramas, but this one always captivates me. There are some good twists and turns and the acting is very good. Also in age Sigourney Weaver is a beautiful woman.

A confession towards the end of the film does explain something about the behavior of the Travis family members, but actually that statement has no real connection with the dramatic event in the beginning. It is all the more curious that after that declaration a totally different togetherness arises.

Film didn't appeal to me and doesn't convince me and the acting, except for that of Emile Hirsch, actually doesn't either.
