The civil war is over, but a small farming town is still held under the thumb by the Confederates and a gang of Mexican bandits. Gunslinger Shango comes to the villagers' aid.

It is a shame that Shango is mainly a victim for the first half hour, but the final hour is quite a treat, with a super-fast-shooting Shango battling a sadistic bandit leader and an insane major who wants nothing to do with the end of the war.

On Saturday, I watched the remastered version on a new English Blu-ray.

Once again, our favorite wooden, slurring, Brazilian aristocrat stars in a spaghetti western.

This was a film I had wanted to see for ages, if only because on posters and other promotional material you saw Steffen depicted as if he were a suffering Christ himself, and that had naturally caught my attention immediately. I always wondered if it was just me, until I read here that I wasn't the only one who saw it that way.

Unfortunately, there is actually no sign of that in the film, and I didn't come across a single scene that reminded me of even one of the images. Strange.

In fact, after an unfortunately somewhat slow and tedious first half hour, the film is simply the usual Steffen revenge movie, in which he shoots faster than his shadow à la Lucky Luke and hands out many a bandit a one-way ticket to the eternal hunting grounds. The final hour is therefore full of action, and his revolver does fire a great many bullets before it runs empty for once—purely for show, of course.

Not a bad movie, but not very special either, so still a bit of a letdown after all the posters and images that promised a slightly more special picture.

According to the case, it was a 4K print, so it will probably appear on there again sometime, but to be honest, I don't think that is worth the purchase again.

A solid six, or three stars.
