As mentioned earlier, the film does indeed bear some resemblance to Black Christmas (1974), but in terms of quality, it cannot match that Christmas horror classic. Night of the Dark Full Moon (better known as Silent Night, Bloody Night) suffers from a lack of craftsmanship, a very sluggish pace, mediocre characters, and very poor acting.

The first half-hour literally makes a bid for the title of dullest film ever. It is truly impossible to get moving, and even the actors speak at a pace as if it is being played in slow motion. Then, suddenly, there is a pretty gruesome murder, and you are wide awake for a moment. From that murder scene onwards, the quality remains slightly higher. The pace is still far too slow at times, but the scenes with the killer himself (whether he is making a breathless phone call or working someone over with an axe) are very atmospheric. A decent ending too, where everything becomes clear.

Not a masterpiece.. Especially in the beginning, it is very dull and the cast really doesn't do a great job. Still, the scenes with the killer are quite enjoyable. In that respect, this movie is worth the effort for those looking for some obscure 70s stuff.

It looks like a simple slasher, but this film actually has a bit more to offer. The story's premise is good and manages to surprise the viewer towards the end with a well-chosen twist conveyed in an original visual way. The flashback clarifying the entire story looks just like a clip from the silent film era: ugly, gray-tinted images. However, the film remains somewhat vague at times regarding the various characters and family ties. The film requires some patience due to the slow build-up, and the moment of the first kill in the house reinforces the tension. You shouldn't expect better kills after that. Decent. 6/10

Despite this being supposed to be a horror slasher, there is little to no suspense in the story, and the plot is made far too complicated to find any logic in it.

And that shootout at the end? What was that good for?
