The Scarlet Pimpernel plot
In this adaptation of Baroness Orczy's classic adventure story, during the French Revolution, a mysterious English nobleman known as the Scarlet Pimpernel spectacularly rescues French aristocrats from the guillotine. Behind the mask of this mysterious hero is the English dandy Sir Percy. Percy falls in love with the damsel Marguerite St. Just and the two make plans to get married. But Marguerite is a close acquaintance of Paul Chauvelin (Ian McKellen), the man tasked with killing the Scarlet Pimpernel. Chauvelin is all about getting hold of the Scarlet Pimpernel, but the Pimpernel is smarter than he thinks.
