The games away! No time to lose!

Very good film. Nice Sherlock Holmes film adaptation that is a bit different. This is because the story is not told from Watson's perspective this time, the atmosphere is much darker than normal and because part of the film is based on real historical facts based.

The cast was very good. Christopher Plummer is a very good Sherlock Holmes, he looks just like Peter Cushing very much like what I imagine the character to be. James Mason was also a good Watson, although he comes across as a bit older here than in the other film adaptations.

I thought it was a good story that despite being a bit darker seems to be in the same style. I also really liked the dramatic undertone and climax. Like most Sherlock mysteries the solution is quite far fetched.

Very entertaining film with good atmospheric soundtrack. Beautiful images now and then and dark locations. The mate-paintings do not always work well but in general the film looks good.

Sherlock Holmes vs Jack The Ripper

Everyone will be able to decide for themselves how they prefer to see Sherlock Holmes: the extravagant but rather flat figure from the Guy Ritchie films, or the more humane Holmes from Murder by Decree? I thought Plummer portrayed a nice Holmes, who is a bit older and wiser happened. It is even a clever idea to entrust the Jack the Ripper case to the world's greatest detective. The sensational theory surrounding the Ripper is personally one that I like a little less, but the film also takes over elements that are common to almost all other Ripper stories such as the involvement of the Freemasons. The incorporation of Holmes into the Ripper murders seems quite believable because of this and the fact that Holmes is partly responsible for the death of Mary Kelly is [ /spoiler] a twist in itself. Also striking is the atmospheric depiction of Whitechapel, with dark, smoky alleys, the sound of foghorns and church bells. Mmm, it's great that so much attention went into such details A good Holmes film.

For fans of the detective, The Seven-per-Cent Solution... also seems to be a good Sherlock film. There he meets Sigmund Freud in the flesh.. I am extremely curious about this.

I wasn't crazy about the story, although the atmosphere was certainly good in the beginning with those dirty streets at night full of fog, I had hoped for more of a horror atmosphere full of tension as expected in the version with Caine, but that was a big disappointment.

And despite the good cast, the story somehow started to bore me more and more after an hour.

Shame .
