Two New York writers - one specializing in comedy, the other in tragedy - get involved in a discussion about the ambiguity of human drama, so aptly symbolized in the laughing and crying theatrical mask. The two each come up with a story about the same woman, Melinda. They give their own twist to the events and in this way one version tells the comic and the other the tragic version.

a snack, you can't make more of this M&M. the cast plays perfectly (even ferrell) and really brings the characters to life, the story itself should be fun to follow but unfortunately it just isn't in practice. the drama is just all depression and such a movie would only make you depressed, the comic story is nowhere comical. not because Ferrell or Carrell or so on are bad, but simply because that story isn't really comical and the dialogues are written rather dramatically. but all in all, the story remains fascinating because you want to see how one starting point can lead to 2 different worlds with different choices and decisions. That's nice to see, but this film doesn't get much more than that.

I had this one lying around for a while and gave it a try. Still a special film with the two storylines.
The cast did a great job and the movie looked good.
A different movie, but it worked for me. I have not complained.
