Another very fine South Korean film. Anyway, it's a cinema that I generally like very much, and The Wailing is another excellent example of this. While genre hopping, we see, in a very beautifully filmed way, the (police) investigation into a mysterious disease in the Korean countryside, in which people for unknown reasons cause bloody massacres among their families. Although the film features many familiar elements, such as extensive and regular clumsy police work, a exorcism and multiple zombie movie-like scenes, the film is generally not that formulaic and therefore surprising enough, and ( like I said before) visually very nice. I personally think the mix of genres is very nice and well done, but I can imagine that some people who are waiting for something more serious, for example a serious horror or detective, will not completely agree with that. In any case, I am having a great time with it, although the film is a bit too long. And after Chugyeogya I will also look up that other film by Hong-Jin Na, this leaves me wanting more.

I remembered Hong-jin Na from The Chaser, a film that was not exactly perfect but very strong good sides. This one is a bit better and has a weird genre mix and goes from a police film that is often comical to horror and certainly also drama with a striking Christian experience of good and evil, without it becoming a very pushy religious film, by the way. a movie like Memories of Murder is never far away, although this is much more horror. Cleverly made. And I didn't even think it was too long.
