I too became curious about this movie when the remake came out. Last week I was finally able to get my hands on a Blu-ray copy and it was finally blown away. Clash Of The Titans falls a bit between two styles. We are dealing here with a story from classical antiquity, of which there were more in the sixties and seventies, but influences from sword & sorcery are undeniable. It's just not Conan The Barbarian or Excalibur where the atmosphere is quite different.

In any case, visually it looks quite worn. The demise of Argos looks incredibly clumsy, although fortunately it is not a harbinger of things to come. Later on, Ray Harryhausen's stop motion animations look pretty good. Yet it is also a typical eighties print on bluray where the traces of the previous decade are clearly visible. The advantage is that it all does not look so kitschy, but the spectacle could have been more exuberant. At times you can enjoy the decors and the story is very nice and has nice elements. Especially the scenes with Medusa are beautiful. Clash Of The Titans is anno 2014 a movie for enthusiasts. For children it is a bit too scary and violent and modern viewers will be annoyed by the visuals of 1981.

This used to be a fun and entertaining Adventure / Fantasy movie, which looked very cheap and where the special effects were just laughably bad.

Despite that, this film managed to entertain me as a child and I also found it a fascinating story to watch (sometimes even a bit exciting). The performance was also good and the cast did a creditable job, especially protagonist Harry Hamlin in the role of Perseus. There are also a few beautiful women in it, such as the then mature Ursula Andress (in the role of Aphrodite) and Judi Bowker (in the role of Andromeda) who can also be admired a bit topless (during a bath scene). The film is quite long, which makes it all seem a bit long-winded and boring. This is partly because the story progresses quite slowly. Despite the fact that it all looked cheap and fake, it did not look bad visually, especially the landscapes, sets and decoration. There is also some action in it, but unfortunately it looks very fake.

But all in all, being a kid, this used to be a fun movie to watch. If you are watching this film for the first time (this film has been broadcast regularly on the MGM channel in recent years), it is of course all laughably bad and very dated. In that respect, you better look after the meritorious remake "Clash of the Titans (2010)", which is almost 30 years old. later appeared.

Childhood nostalgia. A movie that had made a big impression on me as a child, and even now I thought this was a nice review. In many ways better than the CGI-pimped-up remake from 2010. So I'm glad the remake is rated lower than this one. This classic has a strong design: that scene with the ferryman Charon has been burned on my retina for decades and the scene with Medusa is of epic proportions.

While I'm not a big fan of stop motion and Harryhausen effects, I thought the special effects artist was at his best here. Only the opening scene (flooding of Argos) and the Kraken was too clumsy for me. This film brought back a somewhat forgotten legend from Greek mythology. The owl Bubo is an indispensable character in this film, just like R2D2 in the Star Wars films.
