At' Zije Republika plot
The story is set in a village in the beautiful hilly landscape of Moravia (on the border between the Czech Republic and Slovakia) during the last days of the Second World War. The Germans are already gone, the Russians haven't arrived yet. Young Olda is bullied by other children because of his small stature. He has no friends, except for a somewhat strange elderly man, a great animal lover who is also a victim of the hates of the other villagers.

I also have to say phew like the previous speaker. You expect a children's film, a Ciske de Rat in the Moravian countryside but it quickly degenerates into a Come and See-like madness that takes place in the head of the boy. Not that it becomes that bad. It is more subtle, more artistic (although the birds and the squirrel will think differently about that).
